“Ugh, advertisements!!”
The six-year-old exclaims during a commercial interruption of Sailor Moon. She’s been taught advertisement = capitalism, and capitalism = bad. Nevertheless, she calls out brands by their colors alone, is utterly powerless against QR codes, and practices her reading on each and every billboard passed in the car. At the grocery store, she is presented with some fresh produce: two innocuous, identical bananas, one with text and a bar code, the other, Elsa…
Which do you think she picks?
"Consider the Elsa banana: a marriage of fruit and sticker, a clear message delivered at eye level to the most passionate audience, working in harmony to sell not only a movie, but a banana too."
For many, advertising is a dirty word. It's estimated the average person encounters upwards of 10,000 ads on a daily basis. Consider the Elsa banana: a marriage of fruit and sticker, a clear message delivered at eye level to the most passionate audience, working in harmony to sell not only a movie, but a banana too. We must acknowledge that advertising can be inconvenient and intrusive, but at its best, advertising provides our culture with its basic framework, quite literally from the time we open our eyes as human beings.
“The role of advertising has been shifting for some time. It’s no longer just about persuading people to buy stuff or change their behaviors; it’s about enhancing experiences and improving lives.” - Claire Gillis
An hour of doom-scrolling, a t-shirt of your favorite band, or a bird of paradise dancing for courtship… advertisement is part of our nature, and sometimes nature itself. In its most pure and distilled form, advertising is the simple act of conveying a message with intent to sell. While methods and mediums of advertising are ever evolving, the purpose of advertising remains consistent.
"FI5TH is, succinctly, an ad agency."
In an effort to best approach client needs objectively and sustainably, there was no question in our mind when developing our brand, FI5TH is, succinctly, an ad agency. Medium agnosticism, performance driven communication, and ultimately, selling your product, are and forever will be at the fore of our brand.
“One day I woke up and "advertising" was replaced with new words. And I didn't even notice it until I found myself trying to understand what branded content actually is. Hang on, isn't branded content…Advertising?” - Sean Cummins
Amidst a rapidly evolving culture both in and out of the workplace, consistency becomes scarce and trends become increasingly difficult to decipher from “new normals.” Upon our founding in 2020, advertising had undergone countless aliases, monikers and facelifts alluding to a more altruistic pursuit of ROI. The advertisers of yesteryear were now the “storytellers” of today. Call it what you will, FI5TH wants to help great brands sell great products.
So… why an Advertising Agency?
To communicate with purpose—to reach your audience—to responsibly architect our culture.
“The end of all human life is predicted to occur in about five billion years. There will still be Shen Yun billboards in six.” - Brandon English
P.S. This article is an example of advertising, and if you’re reading this, it worked.
